Not one of my videos but I had to share this monster...
Pretty simple really...I just had to do a search on that creature and I am even more confused than ever about how to classify the orthopterans.
Does anyone know an easy way to tell the difference between a grasshopper, cricket, true katydid, or false katydid? I sure don't.
I remember you posting photos of these before. Didn't realize they were native to Texas! Wow! Would love to get some photos. Let me know if you ever have any for sale.NIce! a monster, and not even adult.
Reminds me of the native carnivorous katydid in Texas Neobarrettia spinosa
It will be tall order to find any this year due to extreme drought in Texas. Will let you know if I could find any. Now i will pray for more rains in Texas. :fortuneteller:I remember you posting photos of these before. Didn't realize they were native to Texas! Wow! Would love to get some photos. Me too! I'm doing the rain dance as I type this... :sorcerer:Now i will pray for more rains in Texas. :fortuneteller:
The violin mantis was old and too damage to preserve unfortunately. :mellow:Why a mantis? ahahaha sure you had a good reason and those are like the katydids here on steroids!
There is another carnivorous katydid besides the red-eye monster. It is N. victoriae, a rarer species.I remember you posting photos of these before. Didn't realize they were native to Texas! Wow! Would love to get some photos. Let me know if you ever have any for sale.
Haha... it works! Weather forecast predicting rain this weekend :clap:Me too! I'm doing the rain dance as I type this... :sorcerer:

Yes their nymphs make wondeful photographing subjects. Very nice pics Henry, time to think of entering National Geographic Photo contest.Nice! Beautiful clear photos!
I never kept a katydid but now I'm seeing there are some really pretty ones out there. I know they are really pretty as nymphs...
I've been keeping a fat little cricket that hitchhiked on some bramble I brought in for stick insects. They've been living together peacefully for about a month. She's very shy. Jumps away if I try to hold her, but comes running when I put in sliced carrot for her!
