Yesterday i saw an ad with an mantid for sale, this is very rare here in Sweden..so i went.. happie

When i got there i got sad..

This guy got over 50 different types of reptiles and 50 types of insects.. Crickets walking on the waterpipes.. just like a horrormovie.

The sad part is the mantids, it was not one, there were about 30.. all livin in terrible conditions.. lineolas, ghosts, violins, gemmantus.

living in cups smaller than themselves, full with feeces.. some of them was adults and could not move, some mismolts, some dead..

Completly flat. And very dry..

My plan was to buy 1, but i spent all the money i had on me, and got/resqued 3.

The second i got home they tasted mist, started drinking from the leafs.

and they got some tasty cricks.

I had a hard time sleep this night, thinking about the other ones..

Anywho.. here are two of them.

And they now livin in lovin family of 12 :)

That's really great. Great job, dude! Many props. What a shame that they're such vivacious predators yet helpless victims to this type of care. Kudos.

Yep this ###### was awful.. When payday comes i will buy some more. I have lots of love to give.

Thats nice! I hope you areable to save the rest.

I dont know about you guys but I consider this animal abuse. Just because they are insects doesnt mean that this should not be taken lightly. I think since there are reptiles too, you should contact your nearest animal rescue center and if they agree to come and inspect the house say taht you have been raising mantids for years and could take them in. You might get free mantids and the reptiles would be in a better home

All the reptiles there are in good shape and clean houses.. There were only these lovin creatures that had a terrible life..they were just buisness he said. I dont think they actually care about insects.. But its worth a try i think :)

The problem is by buying the mantises you are supporting his buisness practices. It is like buying a puppy from a petshop, you are supporting the puppy mills. I can understand not wanting to leave them behind though. Those are some lucky rescuees.

Still. I have seen Trantulas beng taken into a better home.

I still hope that you try to contact an animal rescue center. It will probally better the situation

If he had reptiles, as well, the mantis may be raised for feeders and he wanted to make a buck or two by selling a few. Who knows, but I think reporting as animal abuse is a little extreme. I give my mantids the bare essentials. Some people might say it's not "nice" enough, but it is what they need and I'm not killing them. Save what you can, if you must, but as stated earlier you are supporting this sort of practice.

as sad as it sounds, I agree with KK.

if you deside to buy more, why would he stop. the same goes for when people want to rescue a reptile from a petstore who doesn't take care of them...they will now just replace what you buy with another one, as you have already shown them that they can make a profit from what they sell. so you now cause MORE harm to what it will be replaced with.

with that said, my heart goes out to you and the mantids.

Harry

It was 2 Creo gemmatus one female and one male.. both sub.

i think there was 4 deroplatys dessicata.

4 Hierodula grandis.

1 violin.

and about 20 Lineola. some was Romana? dont know the difference.

But you know this is in sweden? Looong way.

That´s true, But if you like me, has a big intrest in these animals and there is not even a possibility to even see a mantid in real life.. maybe you had bought some of them to.

Of course there´s a big possibility he replace them, but in my heart it´s feels more right to buy them than to go home with no mantids, i was looking for mantids and i found them.

There is not mantids for sale in this country and it´s hard to get someone to ship.. I don´t think i did a bad choice. i have searched this country clean :)
