Maybe the seller is not familiar with the proper care/husbandry of mantids? Next time you are in there. You should suggest better ways to properly care for them. If they are in such bad conditions, and a lot of them are miss molting and dying. I would think he is losing money? No?

I was also thinking, that if you go there, with some new containers, some water in a spray bottle and just start taking them out of the containers and setting them into new ones, and when he starts asking you what you are doing, you can tell him that they are going to sell better for people who want pets if they look clean and fresh. And if he does not like that, then tell him I said this is from me and then procede to " punch his lights out"

That´s true, But if you like me, has a big intrest in these animals and there is not even a possibility to even see a mantid in real life.. maybe you had bought some of them to.

Of course there´s a big possibility he replace them, but in my heart it´s feels more right to buy them than to go home with no mantids, i was looking for mantids and i found them.

There is not mantids for sale in this country and it´s hard to get someone to ship.. I don´t think i did a bad choice. i have searched this country clean :)
you did the right thing. I was just giving my point of view.

please do as Rebecca says. oh, and if you have to "punch his lights out", then can you put it on youtube please? :clown:

I contacted an animal center in Sweden and asked for a quote on Insect Abuse as there is a law for it. I will get back to you when she replies.

Ya. Do what Rebecca said! But I wouldnt punch is lights out because thats not very nice and its a FEDERAL CRIME lol

I talked to him and im going there on sunday, with some care sheets :) and containers. He was not superexcited. you guys is really nice people. With lots of ideas and good values. I've tried to explain to some of my friends but they all say it is just insects :)

But there will be no punching and no hiding evidence :)

The problem is by buying the mantises you are supporting his buisness practices. It is like buying a puppy from a petshop, you are supporting the puppy mills. I can understand not wanting to leave them behind though. Those are some lucky rescuees.
This is sad but very true.

Pet stores depend on bleeding heart impulse buyers and will deliberatly give animals poor housing

conditions just to get people to feel sorry for them them and buy.

These days, the economy is terrible all over the world, people are not buying, and pet stores will do anything

to get you to part with your money.

I have talked to several pet store managers over the years and this is how I know it to be a fact.

How my own outrage started is when I saw the way my local pet stores were treating there reptiles, particularly,

leopard geckos.

They had them on the wrong substrate, too much humidity, dead cricks everywhere, no hidding places,

mixing in different species of lizards in the same tank, etc. all causing them so much stress, they would not

eat and were as skinny as toothpicks.

The line I always hear is: "Someone will buy it!".
