Hi, Mantidforum!
I'm very new to the hobby, but a long time enthusiast. I've finally reached an age with a job stable enough that I can actually begin keeping mantids, rather than just admire them from afar. And, I mean, when I say new, I mean REALLY new. The only experience I have with actually KEEPING a bug is about 4 days. I had been browsing the forum and looking up reputable breeders for a while when I found a little Carolina female outside of work. I was running late already, so I was running towards the door with my arms full of books, and stopped in my tracks when I saw her. I was kinda frazzled and spent some time trying to pick her up but also hold all those books, and, surprisingly, all that did was piss her off. So, I crossed my fingers and ran inside to fetch a cup, ran back, and she was still there. (Yay!)
Soooo, yeah. Now I have a bug. And she's my favorite bug. I mean, for now. I'm currently at work, but just down the street at the post office, there's an orchid nymph in a box with my name on it, and it's kinda killing me to wait. I need my child. I NEED it.
Anyway, I am a new hire at a library, and we do a bunch of displays for... things. Anything, really. So, what I wanna do is set up a display with different kinds of exotic mantids that I've raised, and share them with our patrons. Hopefully THAT one guy doesn't come in drunk and ruin everything. Maybe I'll put up a fence or something.
Don't hate on me too much for the mason jar. She only lived in there for a day or two, and I ALSO know the critter keeper isn't an ideal solution either. I'm hoping to get a tank or something that I can put some dividers in so I can display a few different species.
The Little Carolina (Album)!
(She is a naughty bug and looks up porn while at work. She apparently has a thing for Asians. Silly girl.)
Wish me luck with the new baby!
Edit: Got the Orchid! It looks healthy, though a bit timid. I would be timid, too, if I was shipped overnight in a cup.
Shhh, don't look at me! I'm a flower!
