Hello everyone, new guy checking in from the Ithaca area. Have never kept mantids before, but find them very interesting. Would like to get around to keeping one or two. I currently have a few species of snakes, a couple species of feeder roaches, and some tarantulas.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Nope, this is not Mark haha. You've got some awesome salamanders out that way, Peter. Fortunately I have enough snakes and tarantulas for now, I don't think I would be able to get too addicted. I really want to get some ghosts and will probably leave it at that, at least for a while.

Haha, let's see if I can get it all in one go. A pair of mexican black kings, kenyan sand boas, one normal ball python, one pastel ball python (both males), a green rat, western hog, snow bullsnake, and a gopher snake. I have some tarantulas too... 1 p. regalis, 1 a. versicolor, 3 rosie slings, and a few random aphonopelma species. Then finally I have a colony of dubias and lateralis.

Nice! I really want to get my self a KSB, but have no room :(

whats your first mantid going to be?

Yea, they are definitely an interesting species. Little knuckle biters. They really don't take up too much room too. I might have a few axanthic babies this year.

I'm hoping to get some ghosts. Figure I should start with a species that is a bit forgiving. I'm always interested in any advice though.

Yea, from what I read and what my preferences are they seem like the best choice. Very interesting looking little guys. Does anyone have any experience with them and feeder roaches? I would assume if it were set up well enough that the lateralis roach nymphs could be small enough. I know that they prefer flying food, but do ya think this could work?

Also, any other mantid keepers from around this area?

I just read your post again not knowing i already did and say you live close to Ithaca!? I might be in ithaca for a longboarding event called the Ithaca slide jam!
