I'm kinda new to mantis breeding, I've only bred Chinese mantises and this is my first time trying to breed D. Lobata. I had a couple of pairs of adults but only tried to breed one pair as the male was consistently trying to go for it.

I didn't really notice until a friend pointed it out, but the abdomen looked kinda swollen to her. I looked at videos such as this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHNhbLKz-68) and noticed the abdomen of their D. Lobata is strangely skinnier than the one I have now. I'm not expert, does this mantis look pregnant? Or maybe digesting a meal?

An adult female mantis will eat as much as they can to produce eggs. They will lay infertile egg cases if unmated when they are no longer capable of eating and digesting any more.
It's completely normal for a female mantis to have a distended abdomen as they'll continue to produce eggs as long as they live.
