My fiancé and I have 3 mantis but we can’t seem to agree on whether each one is male or female. These are the best pictures we could get as they are small little guys (or gals). Please help us figure
Also, is it at all possible to identify species? #1 and #3 were both found in our backyard when they were super tiny in the beginning of May and #2 was found at my fiancé’s work a few miles from our house in June.
I'm going to say male for number three. Number one looks to be Chinese, and I suspect the same for 2 and 3 but I need better front/top/side pics to tell for sure.
@MantisGirl13 does this little guy also look to be Chinese to you? He’s the 6th one to wander into our garage this season but he’s quite a bit smaller and his coloring is very different from the others.
So those that said #1 and #3 are males and #2 is female were correct..
#1 and #2 ended up mating and now we are trying to prepare for her to lay an ootheca. Her abdomen is getting very plump and we want to make sure we give her an appropriate habitat to lay...
What would that look like? What types of surfaces need to be provided? I’ve read that we should feed her a lot but about how much would that be? Is there any given timeframe for when she will lay? Any additional information about this process would be greatly appreciated!
