Hi everybody! I’m new to mantis keeping and so far I love it! It all started as more of a science project when I ordered a Chinese mantis ootheca for my daughter so she could see it hatch. It did and we released all but 2 of the mantises. One died when it was still very small from unknown causes, but the other lived until the 4th instar. He was doing great then one day he got very lethargic and refused food. He developed a dark spot on the top of his abdomen, then died the next day. I don’t know what happened but I think he may have gotten sick/infected from feeding him pet store crickets (lesson learned). That’s the only thing I can attribute it to. I was more heartbroken than my daughter. I recently ordered a Hierodula majuscula (giant rainforest mantis) nymph from an online relailer. I received two in my order a few days ago and both are doing great! I’m excited to continue my new hobby and look forward to all I can learn from you guys!
