Hi all. When I introduced mysef months ago (half a year!) I mentioned that I had acquired a giant rainforest mantid.
She is gorgeous, but I let her go in the local Monsoon Forest recently. She was a fully mature female and desperately seeking a sperm donor and light snack. I tried hard but couldn't find a bloke for her. She was flashing white, except for her wing covers and eyes, every couple of weeks. So now she's out there and I'm looking forward to meeting her progeny.
Very sorry to see her go but fully confident of her ability to feed and breed. This species is considered the same throughout the north and east of Australia but I dont think so. The NT variety have blue eyes, the east coast green.
Here's some pics.
woops, it will only let me upload one shot. How do I put up a bunch of pics with only 1000kb?
