I am wondering if I were to get an orchid or exotic mantid if i could let it crawl on me without it running away i did it with some budwings just wondering if i could do it with all of the types of praying mantids

They can all be held, just be still and let them do their thing and they should be ok, even the ones that like to fly (males) usually after being caught from their flight, will be still and look around when they settle down, as if to say, while swaying, hum! is this all I have been missing? or, Master, of all I survey! :p

If you don't get them all worked up, then they won't run. However, getting them on you without getting them worked up is a challenge.

some species are more skittish than others. and regardless of species, hungry mantids tend to be more skittish and flighty than well fed mantids. also males tend to be a bit more nervous than females. (all of this is in general).

My Tropidomantid had a worm bigger than itself . After that, she didn't move at all. I guess if a mantid is full, they won't move. Certain mantids run around even when they are full but not as much as when they are hungry. My ant mantid will still run around when she is full.
