I’m setting up a bio active system. I’m getting a hexagon tank. I’m getting a giant Asian and I’m getting a divider and sectioning off a small portion for the ghost I plan to get as well. But it will still have plenty of of room its 19 x 16 x 22 so both the giant and ghost will have lots of space. I just have to make sure it’s not too hot or cold as they both can take different temp ranges so I got to find the sweet spot for both. So I’m getting tank, substrate, plants, spider wood, isopods and springtails for Xmas setting it up so it’s active for a few months then get the mantises. I was recently told not to do this as they won’t survive it’s too big. I have dividers to make smaller spaces as they grow and I have mesh that I can make false ceilings with. We are 1st time mantis owners and I want to do it right but now I’m thinking maybe not at all. I can’t afford to buy a bunch of different containers to house them each stage any thoughts?

You don’t need to get fancy for their care. A 32 oz deli would work fine for most of the early instars on the ghost.
Whatever you do, make sure the divider is opaque, because the giant Asian will stare and stare at the ghost trying to get to it. Haha.

I think they’re solid black like a wall I’ll double check. How long can they live in the deli cup would I need an additional container before put in the terrarium

a common guide for spacing on any enclosure is to ensure atleast the vertical space is 3 times the length of your mantis and ensure the horizontal space is at least 2 times the length of your mantis.

But it can be too large right? Because they’ll have difficulty finding food? In the wild they have the whole world but in an enclosure they have trouble finding the food lol sounds crazy don’t it.
