How and where to find mantis

Any advice on how or where to find a mantis? I found a mantis in my garden and im keeping it now. Do you think an ootheca hatched some where nearby or something? Anyway, I live in malaysia, if that helps on how and where to catch a praying mantis.

Hi there! where abouts in malaysia are you from? (I'm originally from Malaysia too, KL to be precise). Best places to go mantis/insect hunting is Ipoh, Penang and Cameron Hill.

No tips on where and how to look for mantid, but it's probably best if you get a plain white cloth sheet and place it underneath a bush. All you do is then smash the bush and collect the escapees from the white sheet. Make sure there's no wasp/bees nest in that bush, otherwise, be prepared to run REALLY fast
