Hey all!  I'm not sure where this post would fit in.  I hope it's okay to post in this forum.

I placed an order for an L1 ghost and a ghost ooth.  When it arrived (April 10th), the ghost has a raptorial missing. As this was our first purchase, I called the seller immediately. I was told that it was checked well before shipping and was there. I sent pics and the seller responded promptly. He thought that since the raptorial was totally missing, he likely ate it.  He also thought it would grow back when he molted. He offered a new one then, or to wait and see what the molt brought.

We waited for the first molt and watched him as he ate. He DID eat. But it was difficult for him compared to the other ghost that we later received. After the molt, his raptorial did not grow back.  The ooth has still not hatched either. I was told on the phone it was fresh so I am not sure if that means it could take longer than normal???

This ghost is having a little struggle with fruit flies. I am not sure how he will do with one raptorial as his food gets larger.

I have sent the seller 3 emails and left 2 voice mails. I have not gotten a reply at all.

I know from reading the forums that an unhatched ooth or a raptorial missing is something that most of you would not hold against the seller. BUT....this seller AGREED to replace if the raptorial did not grow back.  How long would you wait before you warned others?  I don't want to be a total B, but being ignored seems very unprofessional. I expect the seller to stand by what he says. This is not a personal seller but a larger mantid website. I have given them to the end of the week to contact me or I am contacting my card company. I would much rather get a replacement.

Also, this site DOES give refunds. Even on ooths at "their discretion". As least that is what their refund policy states.

Thank you for any advice you care to share. Again, this seller stated he would replace if the raptorial did not grow back. Oddly enough, this is the ONLY shipment we have paid express shipping for.  And the only one we have ever had an issue with.

Sorry about your issue you’ve been having.

If a mantis is missing a limb, the limb will slowly grow back after each molt. I’ve had a few mantises that had a bad molt and lost limbs in the past. Mine regrow their limbs but it didn’t grow the way it should. (Short limbs or crooked, and were unusable).

Just ot of currosity, did you order from moonlight mantids? Cause I’ve had email issues with them.(ignoring all my emails)

If I were you I would submit a claim to your card company. If it was done through PayPal you’ll most likely get your money back. (PayPal is very customer friendly)

that company who sold  you the mantis should keep their customers on their number one priority, not your money.

The seller should send a replacement as promised. I would never buy from them again if they don't respond to mail or voice mail.

It was not Moonlight Mantids.  We have ordered from them with no issues, but never ordered mantids.

So far Casper,  the ghost in question, has not regrown his limb.  He has a numb, but he molted last night and only the same numb.

Don't get me wrong, we love him as he was our first ghost. But I am worried about his ability to get prey as he gets bigger.  And maybe a bit upset about the ooth.  But most definitely I am upset that I was told they would make things right if need be and then be ignored.

I am very happy we found this group as we have gotten some amazing mantids from members here!  All with great communication!  :)

Sounds like you’ve already figured this out. If you haven’t already, I would suggest telling the seller you plan on contacting your card company before actually doing it. That might get them to reply if they’d been been receiving your emails.

I wouldn’t worry too much about losing a raptorial, as it poses very little threat to the mantis’ overall health.

If you can hand feed, then you should be fine. Where did you order from?
