How to prepare the mantids before breeding

ok, so im worried that my female mantid will try eating my newly caught male, because she often doesn't eat as much as my other mantids.This being the case, im worried she might just happen to eat something when i put them together... any way i can protect him?

They are Both L5's , is this the right age to try to breed them?

You MUST wait till there both adults for 2 weeks or more, they will have wings then is how you'll know there adults. What species are you referring to by the way?

Like angelofdeathzz said they both MUST be adults other wise yes, they will likely eat eachother. Once they are adults feed your female...a lot, and make sure your male has room to excape after they finish doing their thing.

i had heard on a previous site they could after gaining wing buds (wasnt true apparently) . Oddly enough, when i put them together after reading the previous article, the male actually tried mate with my female, but before he could, she reared back attacked him . I quickly removed him before he was hurt and descieded to wait a while. (good thing i did)

Well there are some mantid species that have only wing buds as an adult (i.e. Budwing Mantis). Maybe thats what the other site was talking about?

Only adult mantids can mate andthey should be adults for a few weeks before trying. You still have plenty of time to go. Check out my breeding thread for tips.
