I have an adult! And several who aren't.

Kali (C. pictipennis) got her wings night before last - other than Murph who was caught wild, she is my first adult.

My timing is magnificent... I bet most of you will recognize the curled-to-the-left abdomen pose; she wasn't just showing off her new goods. ;) However, if you didn't know what she was about to do, I think that's a pretty decent pic for a P.O.S. camera and a mediocre photographer.

The same day Kali molted I lost a ghost baby to a mismolt, entirely my fault. :( I suppose I learned some lessons from the event. Here is one of the other ghosties.

And my 2 of my H. majuscula kids.

The color variation in this species as nymphs is really cool! I have 2 that are a golden color like the 2nd one here, 2 that are quite red like the first one, and another who is green with red eyes (still need to get pics).

I read in Orin's book that "Small nymphs of some species appear to be all males until fifth instar." Is this one of them? Still pretty hard to tell but all 5 of mine look male, with one maybe not.

And my idolo nymph... do you think the cork strip will be good enough for the next molt, for her to grip? (currently L2). I realize she needs more room, and I'm working on it. And I'm still trucking through the Idol Consolidated thread (she was a surprise!). She's so hard to get pics of, as she pretty much never stops moving once she's out.

I have more pics in the mantisfiles.

dont contemplate buy! they are my favorite species right now!

Congratulations and nice pics!

Your Idolo is fine in a deli cup until around L4-L5 and that lid will be good to molt from until then too. I find it impossible to sex Idolo at L2 so take any IDs with a grain of salt. I still have trouble with them at L4. The best way is to look for a very small fin on the underside of the last segments.

Cool. I keep contemplating H. maj. Interesting nymphs.
Meagan, I really really like them. They have the cool color varations, and of course the adults are drop dead gorgeous with their coloration, and huge.

As little guys, they are curious and interested in their surroundings when I take them out of their enclosures, but not jumpy/spazzy at all. And they're serious hunters that will pursue prey, another trait I enjoy. And I'm told they have few problems. Win, win and win. The only thing I'd wish for was for them to be communal, but I can't have everything :)
