If you want to try searching for them, day time hunts are best. Since the females can't fly, there's a low probability that they'll be at lights. Try looking for them in shrubs (or other plants with semi-woody stems) that range between 1 and 3 feet (those are likely plant heights that I usually look for mantids) or in flower/rose gardens (lots of insects). Forget looking in trees (too high for mantids) and grasses (grass stems and leaves are not strong enough to support a resting mantid). Chances are you might run into lots of limbatas but just remember to lift up the underwings for confirmation. Good luck!
