I think people get into the hobby initially because of their memories of how cool praying mantis are, but get really involved when they discover the range of really cool exotics available.

If you were to show some of the more exotic species people weren't as familiar about, which ones would you show people who were interested in the hobby?

Here's a little list:

Rare in captivity:

-Any Choeradodis sp. (mainly Strumaria)

-Dragon Mantis (IDK, the scientific name)

-Deroplatys Trigonodera

-Parymenopus Davisoni

-Sinomantis Denticulata

-Empusa Fasciata or Pennata

Exotic Looking, but more common as pets:

-Hymenopus Coronatus

-Idolomantis Diabolica

-Gongylus Gongylodes

-Creobroter or Pseudocreobotra

-Euchomenella sp.

-Heterochaeta sp.

-Plistospilota Guineensis (classic build, unique colors)

Hope this helped!  :)
