Some of you may have seen the heat waves that have been hitting the Midwest USA. Apparently, when I went away for a weekend, my A/C went out and the bug room soared to 115 degrees....

Everything died but one hidden ooth under a leaf, and the java shield male. He's doing well, enjoying an entire enclosure to himself. But needs a new home with females. Molted to adult around 3-4 weeks ago, and therefore doesn't have a whole lot of time left for loving. B)

USA only please. PM if interested.

How sad to loose almost all your mantids. Is there anything you could have done to prevent this from happening?

Unfortunately, no, there was no way to prevent it.

I had water and shade and etc in the enclosures, along with plenty of food for my weekend absence--but there was no way for me to predict my A/C would go out, nor to be able to fix it when I was four hours away. le sigh.

I rec'd an email from one member who had such an elaborate set up for his mantids. It included automated misters, cooling, heating, ventilation. He had to leave for a couple of days for business and while he was away, the power went out (electrical) and all of the automatic things failed and he lost almost all his breeding stock and all the nymphs (over $1K) worth and most of it being Idolomatis. So it does happen, and I am sure it comes as a sad shock. I feel bad just loosing one mantid to cannibalism, or some mis-molt, or an accident. Good luck in your hobby.
