Ol wikipedia says there are 3 different species of Stagmomantis in my area, californica being the most common. Any way to tell which is which...?

Off topic, but this reminds me of an ambitious project to get a really good species guide going on this forum. Something comprehensive and accurate. A lot of work, obviously, but, like the one on Idolomantis, and now Thistles, something easily ammended and built upon. Someone (not me) would need to pioneer the project and coordinate it, which might mean it never gets done...

That's one thing I like about the UK site is how organized the care sheet section is, although in Idolo consolidated it's helpful to have the ongoing discussion too. Have at it. People should go ahead and start threads on whatever species they're most experienced with.

Yeah - since I was a little kid. Green stripe on the edge of the wing = Chinese. That's been my experience. But I do NOT have a lot of experience with Stagmomantis species. No problem identifying the females, but I've never put any attention on the male Stagmomantis. So I could be wrong. Why do you think it's Stagmomantis...?
He is very different from a Chinese Mantis.

I searched Stagmomantis carolina and I found this. The place that the picture is in says that it is a Carolina Mantis. They might be wrong.

Yeah, I got all kinds of wrong info when I first started up again with mantids. Pics marked "Chinese", but obviously European ("eye markings on the raptorial arms).

Learn something new everyday, huh?
