what is the largest yet still bulky mantis in culture, none of the grass species cuz they're all length :shifty:

Most likely a hierodula sp or sphodromantis sp...personally its between Hierodula majuscula and Hierodula Membrancae...but h membran aren't as easy to get as my majusc.

All the best,

Andrew

Edit: Albert is disgruntled that I said h membran are not that common (↓his below post ↓) ; I guess he has been holding out! :p

Now with this new info, your probably better off with a nice big h membran ;)

Really Andrew @@" I still have around 30 L6-L7 Hierodula Membrancae I'll make sure they spread around .

yeah I got my idolos 12$ each. but i swear my dog was easier to care for.
True, but the $12 Idolo you bought weren't bred(cb) and cared for by me, lol. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and you do need practice to raise these from babies and get ooths that hatch, soon very soon...4 sale?

THEY'RE NOT THAT HARD PEOPLE!!! really I swear. {raspberries fly} :p

Not common though. You're the only one I know who's ever had success breeding them.

Its amazing what proper care can do for a species. All these people trying to keep picky species in the minimal conditions and wondering why they fail.

I'm willing to share what I've learned just ask?

My best rep is I share what i know openly, not about only me with the knowledge, I'll help you with them, even if you got them from somebody else, No problem, just ask...

I have breed them... starting with only one pair at l4 and l5. Female did pass from getting eggbound or something midway thru laying her second ooth. I don't think I cared for the one good ooth properly and only had 3 hatch. One was eaten at l2. I still have the other two, both girls... but I dont think they are that hard to raise. But at the same time they are probably not a beginner species. The housing is I think where people have the hardest time, maybe humidity but I think that is only truly key around molting time.

Anyway here are some pics of one of me females that just molted to adult almost 2 weeks ago. I think the other will be molting any day now. So the pics had to have my adult female H. Mem with the two being mentioned earlier.

The upcoming girl idolo should be alot bigger too. Even as a sub her shield is larger then the adults. But between the 2 on my hand the idolo is about 1/4 in longer. H. Mem is much heavier but she is about to lay her 5th ooth. And the the idolo is still getting her color... but being 10 days in i am wondering if she is just gonna have lighter colorations then her mom.

oh, mine were easy to care for until they both caught the no-molt-syndrome. one is dead and one appears to be living it's entire life span as an l6. (even if he did molt to sub and adult he would only have a month left to live at this point.)
