Just thought I would say, with the poor rain this last several winters, the Southern Arizona mantis population has plummeted. Where I once saw ten or more ootheca I am now lucky to see one.

Have any of you in California noticed the same thing?

What I noticed last summer when lookig for nymphs was an unusually large number of boys. I think I caught one female for everi twenty males, and this was multiple locations. I'll be curious to see if it changes this year. I can't imagine what could have caused it. But yes, I have seen a little decline in overall mantis counts. I didn't think of the drought - I mostly blamed it on more construction and less wild lands around out area

I've noticed this here as well in past years. I think there may be some cycling of populations that occur from year to year.

afew years ago threre was one summer with a LOT of mantids but after that there hasnt been many

Found quite a few Stagmomantis in this field.
