I think I'm rubbing off on my mom because she brought me this when she came over today, said she found it outside me apartment. Anyone know what specific kind of horn worm it is? I can't wait to see what it turns into!

You probably don't want to keep it too moist. Caterpillars are prone to 'rot'.

That being said, WOW...what IS that thing? Crazy-looking to be sure! It does look almost like a hornworm in crazy colors!

Good luck!

It's a beast too! I shot a pic with my iPhone of it on my hand as a size reference. I don't have tiny hands either (I'm 5'11")

And I'm pretty sure it's some sort of hornworm because of the spike on it's rear. I don't really know what to do with it

It might be a white lined sphinx caterpillar( Hyles lineata). You could look on Bugguide.net and find some similar images. It's beautiful. :)

Good call! I found pictures that are just like it! I hope I can keep it through it's pupation and into a giant beautiful moth!

Laura G, I got the very same type of caterpillar, found three of them in my driveway back in October, one pupated the other two died. That pupae hatched and lived for a few days, I still have it since they retain their colors after they die.

Sweet! The one I have has been in the pupation stage for a while now. I'm wondering if it has died

BTW, Horn worms are very often hosts of tachnia flies. Make sure your container is screened over. But if it's been this long, then it is likely safe.
