kidding it's not really a touching tale. But I'll tell you, it makes a great xmas booster for us mantid collectors!

Twas the night before christmas , and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a ghost . . . :p

Ricardo watched and gave the occasional prod during an attempt to mate clover and godfrey.

Godfrey climbed towards Clover in curiosity , and jerked his head in different directions, watching and interacting.

The two mingled for a good few seconds, before Godfrey flicked Clover with his scythes. She lumbered away at his rude behavior , and fluttered her wings angerly. The male had won his territory , and had confirmed to his owner, an uninterested in mating.

Ricardo sighed but understood.

Slowly and with care, He lowered his hand to clover. Following a readjustment of her swiveling head, the female mantis swayed, and then eagerly reached up. Ricardo raised her to eye level , and then put her into her quarters, where a fresh plump cricket awaited her. Godfrey reached back, grasped his back leg , and began cleaning his foot devoid of interest in both his wife and owner. After clover found her dinner and was safely in place , Ricardo turned to Godfrey, who had taken interest in a miniature Christmas tree.

For some odd reason, when Ricardo lowered his hand to Godfrey, he flicked it, then flew away. ricardo rushed into the room Godfrey had flew to, but had no luck. For almost two weeks, Ricardo had lost hope. However on boxing day, after the christmas rush, Ricardo came home from a party and was blessed with a true christmas gift. There, on the laptop, was Godfrey, warming his legs on it's heated surface. Ricardo smiled and this christmas truly was a special one!

Anyways guys, he's currently eating a cricket and is settled. Merry xmas!

I'm so glad for you (and for him!) that Godfrey was found.

And while we're all happily congratulating you on your good fortune, Ricardo, let me hijack your thread long enough to mention my "found again" story. Early in the year, my good friend Katnapper, skilled dispenser of mantis and maternal advice, escaped from the forum. I was amazed and delighted to see her avatar a few minutes ago and discover that I had not pulled up an old post but that she is really back! :D :D:D Welcome back, luv; a lot of us have missed you a lot!

Thank you, Phil.

I've missed you all too!

I have to mention, Ricardo... that your story also reminded me of Harry, an adult male Rhombodera sp. that I'd lost for several weeks in my bug room. I'd torn the place apart looking for him, but to no avail. Unfortunately my story didn't end as well as yours. So it really made me glad that you'd found him. ;)

Nice hart warming story. :) I on the other hand, am not as lucky when i lose mantids. :(

It's nice to hear from you again Kat! :) You have been missed! :)

Thanks everyone! Godfrey likes to fly around so much I figured it was only a matter of time before I bumped into the lad

It seems my mentality was correct. Also Welcome Back Katnapper , I look forward to our confrontations on the site ( I'm a new mantis enthusiast )

I had something similar happen a while back with a male ghost. He was being irritable, so I decided to move him to a 2.5 gallon glass tank I had lying around so he had some more room to be pissy. Unfortunately, my cats decided that he looked crunchy and knocked his cage on the floor. I had assumed they'd eaten the poor feller, but lo and behold a week or so later my wife found him chilling on the handle to my balcony. Recaged, fed and watered, he lived another month or so before succumbing to old age.

You'd think I'd learn that my cats were to not be trusted with small glass cages containing tasty-looking critters, but they managed to knock my baby bull snake's cage on the floor a few weeks ago. He didn't give flight, though; he just reared up and hissed angrily until I picked him up and calmed him down. His new cage is much heavier and safe from cats. :D

Those darn cats  , I miss having cats but I like the fact that my other creatures are safe from them. A person that I live with will not have cats in his home. <_<
