Luna moth failure

I feel awful right abt now

I think I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown, and here's why

So I had 16 Luna cocoons and I had a topic so peeps can reserve Luna eggs since I anticipated I'd have them

I posted it in advance of the eclosion so peeps could make up their minds on whether or not to get eggs since eggs need to be shipped after deposition to arrive before hatching and adults mate fast after emerging

Now it wuz a trade offer and I said to peeps not to send ANYTHING until they got eggs

Thank goodness nobody did cause my stock is gone

4 females eclosed

2 failed to attract anything and flew away

1 wuz sterile

1 attracted a male but he didn't mate with her and she laid infertile eggs and both died at the claws of a majuscula female

I have 1 cocoon left but it's teeny tiny

I feel bad that I promised like 7 peeps eggs I anticipated on having and wuz unable to provide

I have bought eggs from peeps and so those of u who were supposed to get eggs this brood get them next brood

And a similar thing is goin on with cecropia but I still have a viable female in fridge and hopin to borrow male from a friend

I think mine eclosed to quickly since they were undersized and malnourished (the Lunas- I got cecropias as cocoons) because last year my mom prevented me from feeding them properly (she also tried killing my toads in October)

And if tht isn't enough I have so much pressure from my mom and school (she's mad that I have a 93 in Latin) and thinks my grades r slipping cause 3 grades went down a few points and one grade went down because of something unrelated to the subject and it's really something for sophomores not freshmen anyway) and that's all she focuses on

She won't keep anything in mind as far as why they went down a bit

She thinks these r excuses but all I do is state simple facts:

High school grades fluctuate

We get a shitload of work at the end of the year

I'm being challenged by teachers

She thinks I slack off and all she does is pressure me, no encouragement

My math grade reached an all time high and it's the class requiring the most effort but she never acknowledged that

And shes all like "every year there's a pattern of grades falling when Luna moths come out" which may be a little true

But every year they come back up

And Lunas need lots of attention for like 4 days then 2 weeks of eggs and the first 2 instars r easy and take the rest of the school year

Ok the school year is almost over and I need something to rear over the summer so if sacrificing 4 days secures that then so be it, nature doesn't pause just cause I'm in school

I always manage to pull off good grades at the end of the year

And now she wants to get rid of all my insects and is all like "these guys have to go" and bla bla

And claims they distract me from work and I spend too much time with them

IM AT SCHOOL FROM 7:30AM TO 2:05PM!!! So much for encouraging your childs interests

Insects make up most animals and those who study them can be very successful

She seems to have forgotten wat it wuz like to be my age

And in contrast she's all happy at my sis and is always encouraging her and using her as role model and stuff and lets her get away with everything

Perfect example:

Tonight I wuz texting hertarem and she walks into my room giving me no privacy and takes my phone cause it wuz after 8 and she is all like "no phone after 8" to both of us but didn't take my sisters phone

And then she's mad at my pass code lock on my phone

My sister has one on her phone too

I have one on my phone cause my sister takes my phone and hacks into it and reads my conversations

She never addressed any of the privacy violations acted upon me but if I so much as walk into my sisters room she's on my case abt privacy

And then she says I'm not involved enough with stuff but whenever I try to get involved in stuff she thinks it's too dangerous for me or if I need help with it she doesn't help

I've been trying to find places to volunteer at for the summer and asked her to help me find some places

She told me she had contacts

It's been like 2 weeks

She still didn't contact anyone

But my sis will be volunteering somewhere this summer

If someone offered for her to volunteer there'd be no hesitation

I feel like I'm being set up

So yes I'm a bit stressed and will probably wake up tomorrow and be like "why'd I post this" but I need some advice

All is not well inside my mind

Please help

Your Mom wants you grades as high as can be so you can get a scholarship and get out of her house. College is expensive. :lol:

I have completely straight A's this year but my mom is like "Oh you need to be in Advanced Alegbra (Its the same ciriculum just goes at a faster pace than Regualr Algebra)."

Sorry I got you in trouble for texting you after 8, completely my fault.

I dont think any peeps will be mad at you for all the work you put in to TRY an mate the Lunas. I remmeber you text ing me and saying "The Lunas just wont MATE"

You MAY need to ease off on the critters, and focus on school (could be the case). Or, as I have to do, ALLOW myself to play with my bugs AFTER I've done my work (as a reward). I don't even let myself browse the forum if my To DO list hasn't been addressed. Hopefully, you can make the argument that playing with bugs keeps you from playing with other, more dangerous distractions.

As for the moths, do you have a net cage, or Butterfly House? I've NEVER had an issue with Polys, Lunas, or Cecropia mating. They prefer the dark, and enough heat, but in the same cage... no problem.

If you didn't already know, all things being equal, the males eclose a day or two before the females. So if you're taking them out of the fridge, plan accordingly.

In any case, a mom that tollerates even a BIT of our little creepy-crawlie little hobby, deserves a little bit of praise. Be a good kid, and thank her for the effort.

Welcome to the world of pre-adult my friend, this is when you realize things aren't quite as easy as they seemed when you were 13, you must earn everything and they'll be no pats on the back for doing what's expected of you. Things won't be all about you and soon your sister will feel what your feeling, we all go through it sooner or later and it's how you adjust that will decide when you'll be happy again, just try and make the best of what you have and keep moving forward. Stress is part of life it's how you deal with it that makes the difference(;

I think you'll do fine, your mom is just seeing something you don't is all.

the reason my biology grade is 83 is cause i have a zero on something in the gradebook that i handed in ELECTRONICALLY and got an 80 on on the class site where i handed it in on

I feel really bad for you. It's hard to juggle school, grades and insects at the same time. Trust me, I know. Doing trigonometry in 7th grade and raising 20 something animals is not easy. Just try to have a happy medium. Like sporeworld said, doing HW and then playing with the insects could make it easier, and it is a pretty good incentive. That's actually how I (kinda) handled it. Also try the same with studying for tests and stuff. Hope this helps

they stopped calling or were sterile and useless for breeding so i fed them to the majuscula, who is mating as i type
