My Chinese male ate the head off of the female Chinese mantid . Only ate the head and left her to wander around without one. And wander she did. Why did this happen. Never heard of male eating female! Sad...

My adult male Ghost ate some days before another male subadult...and in the past my Gongylus male had eaten a female, but not adult.

well always should feed the males before introducing them to the females and vice versa and have to say both my females that I caught were bred with males and the males survived and released them to continue their lives so it happens and you learn to compensate for future endeavors!

Chinese are ravenous eaters and can eat a mate or any other thing they can grab if hungry, my Chinese would attack me if tried to get them out to fast, one of the most aggressive species there is, so I'm not surprised a male ate the female even though it's abit unusual.

As massaman said make sure ALL are well fed first in the future.

I know this is all a little late but you live and learn, sorry about your loss...

Yes! Score one for the guys! Take that! :gun_bandana:

Well in all seriousness i am sorry for your loss. :( That male must have really been quite hungry to do that!
