When my creo pint. moled to become a full winged mantis, she was hungry.

I thew a dubia roach in there, which she snatched right up almost before it

hit the floor.

But I also had a nice freshly shed, white cricket, so I threw that in too.

She turned her head to see the crick while munching on the roach, literaly thew

the roach to one side with a quick flick, and snatched up the soft yummy crick

instead!!

It was funny to watch as the poor roach limped away to find a hidding place!! LOL!!

I had just dumped a bunch of little ff's into my jar of about 100 lineola hatchlings

and saw one lucky nymph walk away with one fruit fly in it's mouth, and another in

it's hand (claw....whatever) for later :)

These little creatures are fun to watch :)

That is a bit unusual, Usually my mantids including creo's take at least a day until their new skin hardens and they are ready to eat again. That is unusual that she would abandon the roach for another meal. Sometimes they will try and catch the second and be eating both at the same time. They are fun indeed to keep watch over and observe their behavior.

I would also think that they would never waste!! nature is very conservative, they need to be to survive. They never know when or if another meal

will come down the pike!!

So that is why it freaked me out too.

No, the very day she molted, her wings were full color, dry and appeared ridged. I was surprised too, but these creatures have surprised me before,

so I never know what to expect.

I really wish I had a video of it. It was very funny and weird.

This particular creo has always had a strange personality, and she is always fun to watch, so she is one of my favorites :)

BTW, she did finish off the roach later ;)

I like when they play the peek-a-boo game.....you can see me...now you can't. I'm like..."hey...I can still see you." To me they have odd cat-like similarities when they get worked up trying to catch a fly or the way they preen themselves.

I love to watch them too, my fav is when they catch something and turn away from the others so no one see what they got!
LOL!! I know, I see that all the time when I feed my bunch of L1 lineola's.

There are so many in there, they grab what they can, look around, and sneek to a hidding place.

I made the cat connection too. LOL!!

My chinese female seems to know that the food comes threw this hole that has a plug in it.

She will look at me, then turn her head to look at the hole, then look at me again :)

I think her, and my oldest creo pint. are the smartest of the bunch.

With most of my mantids, if they are not already perched up-side down on the lid when I

slowly open it, they will look up, and climb to the top and the rim of the jar.

I usualy then get them on my hand and put them on a small fake plant with a large plastic base

on my dinning room table.

They will stay on that and watch me clean their cage, or whatever.

They will stay on the plant and not wonder around on my table as long as I dont spook them.

I know I can safely leave the room and they will be right on that plant when I return.

That's pretty funny. I've had so much fun watching my new guys. Even my husband who was not thrilled about the idea at first is enjoying watching them. I love to watch them hunt and eat (though mine eat only one at a time). Watching them turn their little heads to look at you never gets old either.
