I'll start.

There is, of course, Zorak from Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

There's the mantis from Kung Fu Panda.

There is Scyther from Pokémon.

What others can you think of?

On Oct. 15th there was an episode of R. L. Stine The Haunting Hour called "Swarmin' Norman". A boy finds a praying mantis who is able to command other insects.  Here is a clip on Youtube

It's freezer time for that kid!

On a more serious and factual note:

Great Mantis Goddess (Blessed be Her Name)

Stella hesperia, ora pro nos.

Turra Ovidicus, ora pro nos.

Turra smargadus, ora pro nos.

(There are a lot of other ones that you probably know already).

then there is the band praying mantis and of course mantis tattoos when you google mantis tattoos!

Oh yeah and there is also Psyco Mantis from the Metal Gear Solid games and there is a talking mantis in James and the Giant Peach. :p You can also catch Orchid mantids (along with other exotic species) in the Animal Crossing games and then sell them, put them in a museum or keep them in your house. :D

Haha oh yeah. I have that game on my DS. I don't think I'd ever heard of an orchid mantis before Animal Crossing. sad.

Haha funny funny. Oh yeah and for Nintendo 64 there was a game called Body Harvest where you fought giant super insects and one was a giant 100 foot mantis that shot lazers out of its mouth. I want one of those! :D

I've got an obscure one. In Pan's Labyrinth. The little girl chases it at the beginning and is led by it to the labyrinth. Later it shape-shifts into a faerie. AWESOME FILM if you don't mind subtitles.

Another foreign film I think is great is Run, Lola, Run, You can get it in a dubbed version, but I prefer the original.
