I should have posted this awhile ago but I found this mantis outside on my back porch in September, I live in northeast Florida.

I let him go shortly after I found him cause I wasn't prepared to keep him.

Well, it's a Stagmomantis sp., probably either S. carolina or S. floridensis. Dang, you have a male -- it is much easier to distinguish females of the two species. Our expert on this (as usual) is Yen. Perhaps he will post! Love those green legs!

 
Thanks guys. Would now be the time to pick ootheca? Where would you find them here in Florida? I live in an apartment complex that has a lot of oak trees but not much grass. Perhaps I would find ootheca on the apartment walls or patio ceilings?

 
Now is the time. Carolina spp. ooths are often found on structures like you mentioned. Look under overhangs. You can also find weedy areas and look there.

 
Off topic Rick, your post level "Enigmatic Mantis" is not a real mantis it is a comic character right?
