One of my ghost females has been mated for over a week and I've seen her calling a couple of times. Does this mean the mating was unsuccessful? They were connected for a couple hours.

No it doesn't. However, most matings take several hours for most species even though some knowledgeable people say the transfer of sperm takes about 30 mins. If in doubt mate them again.

Interesting. Never come across a term such as " calling ". Am I to believe they make vocal mating cries? Chirps?

Mine has never done that

then again her mating was successful ;)

It refers to her scent. I've only seen it in my Idols, but there's a gland that comes out that you can see - when they do that, it's dubbed "calling".

here's an image of one of my Cynthias (Silkmoth) "calling"...

I've seen my Ghosts do it regularly even after they are laying fertile ooths. I think it's normal for them to look for as many mates as possible to insure fertility.

My shield constantly "calls" for a mate even though she has been mated twice (for over 30 hours each time nonetheless!). As everyone else has said, mating multiple times is always a good practice.
