Hi all,

I believe mold is growing on the food at the bottom of my D. Hydei culture. Is there any chance this could adversely effect my Chinese Praying Mantids? I have another culture I bought because all the flies ran out before the new ones hatched so I can ditch it if need be.

I've fed from moldy cultures many times... it's almost unavoidable. I've never had a problem. If the media is dry, you can dribble some purified water down the inside of the cup and that can sometimes clear up some of the mold. Dry cultures tend to develop mold. Josh's Frogs say that it is still safe to feed out from a moldy culture. However, avoid using flies from a moldy culture to start another since the mold will be transferred to the new culture.
