Before the sky opened up this morning, I did some bug-hunting while birdwatching and came up with two ooths! I'm 99% sure they're T. sinensis, and one looks a bit iffy, but I decided to bring them home and try incubating them.

Of course this means if either or both hatch I'll be inundated with tiny little alien bugs, but I've also read that T. sinensis don't have terribly high survival rates in the first instars. Still going to get a melano culture going though!

(My birdwatching didn't come up with anything out of the ordinary, but I did have a lot of entertainment watching a red-headed woodpecker calling and drumming.)

Nice! yeah I had three ooths of that species and only kept 20, and now I have 6 :\

Yay! That's exciting. Sort of my dream to find a wild ooth or mantis at some point. (Literally: I've had dreams about this. ;) )

You could also let them go if they get to be too much to handle, since they're naturalized. But I too have heard they have a low survival rate initially.

I had a dream once that my school was overrun with giant blue ooths. wonder what that means...

We can only hope it's a premonition. :D My dreams usually involve finding lots of exotic (including blue, something about that color) mantids and ooths around a particular tree near my house...
