I've got an L7 female ghost mantis, she's a pretty little girl, wish I had a fancy macro lens to get some pics. But anyway, I have her in a large deli cup, and when I put the lid back on (she was hanging on the mesh on the lid) she fell straight to the bottom on her back and didn't move! Eventually though, she stood up, but is staying on the bottom on a leaf. Eating a cricket as I speak, so that must be good news. But I was just wondering what kind of damage and symptoms I should look out for, and if this is life threatening. All hope is appreciated, thanks everyone!

I doubt it. Only the very largest insects weigh enough for falling to harm them. I think it's possible that that was some sort of defense mechanism, since they look like dead leaves dropping to the ground and staying still would make it very difficult for a predator to find them. Although I've never kept ghosts so I wouldn't know.

Thanks guys! :) she looks to be doing fine, she went back to the top of her enclosure like usual. On a side note, my brothers female sphodromantis virdis molted to adulthood this morning! :D

she sounds fine. Sometimes if a mantis falls from a great height, the mantises abdomen can burst. (Look for any weird liquids to see if it was a bad fall)
