i was feeding my mantises like i do everyday before i go to bed, the male grabbed a small baby dubia cookroach and hold it in his arm, then i went to bed, when i woke up the male was laying on the ground on his back and barerly didnt move, he was very old probly about 14 months old. my camera on the phone is not the best but what can this be?

the mantis have had problem with Black eye wich got bigger and bigger, but he didnt have any problems in catching any preys.

The picture is blurry, but look carefully on his arm its like a yellow bubble on his arm the same as on his eye. even one of his antennas was kinda half gone.

I am sorry he passed away!

It looks like he died of old age, 14 months is pretty long! As mantids age and as their bodies start disintegrating, they may start losing feet, antennae, etc., and may also be more susceptible to infections.

I can't tell what's the yellow bubble - the photo looks too blurry. Could it have been an injury or a blood clot?

The black dot on his eye looks like eye rub, though it is possible that there may be a secondary infection going on, which isn't unlikely given the state of the mantis and its weakening immune system. Another note - and this is unrelated to the eye rub issue - I have noticed that in a mantid's last days, the eyes darken completely and never lighten up again, even when placed in bright light.

The black eye have he had for a few weeks, but he was fine 2 days ago, then when i woke up he looking like this, so this yellow bubles on his arms and eye is something that have happened during the night. but i will try to get some better pictures, i put him in the freezer so fast i saw this to end his suffering. it looks like someone have bath him in acid thats why id like to know what this is. but il see if i can get some better photos

Was the roach fully eaten? I can't see the "yellow bubble" but there is a possibility it may have been blood from the mantis or roach. Some roaches do fight back and will end up injuring/killing a mantis. Considering his age, it could've been a number of things, though honestly 14 months is a good age for the old chap.

the roach was alive when i woke up, but it was a very very tiny baby dubia

May have just been his time to move on. Sorry for your loss! But you did a great job keeping him : )
