@happy, often Iris will have a line down the middle as well. And just to clarify, although they hatch out tan, I often have a few green L1s after a couple of days. Usually though, the green comes in at about the 3rd or 4th instar.

Of course a picture of the ooth would help, but until I'm sticking with I. oratoria. I'll post pics of first instars, give me a sec.

Ugh, I couldn't find my good pictures I took...

But here's a picture I took a while back comparing I. oratoria to a Litaneutria sp nymph I had found. Iris is on the left.

I found this picture of an Iris Oratoria ooth that looks just like the ooth I have. If I could get to my ooth and get a pic of it, you'd see that it's just like this.

My yard! I actually had 3 of them. There were a lot of them around my yard last year so I used to catch them and feed them to my lizard Tartan that passed away. The first one I fed him he snatched up the second I put it in his terrarium. The second one I gave him he let 'hang around' for about a day and a half before he decided to consume her. The 3rd and last one I fed to him he allowed to co-habitate for about 3 days before he made a meal of her. Thus the last 2 females both had ample opportunity to leave oothecae in the terrarium before they were consumed. No wonder when I changed out his substrate and cleaned his terrarium the last time before he died I found 2 ooths (not knowing what they were at the time).
