Nepethenes ‘Miranda’

I am having problems with spiders and fruits flies getting loose in my house. I have been growing a Nepethenes ‘Miranda’ on my back porch for about 2 years now I was wondering if I can grow one indoors with a growlight to attact excaped insects.

you can just grow it in a windowsill with a humidity tray. They dont catch spiders, but are great for escaped houseflies and ants

Haha thanks bud I figure with less bugs for the spiders to eat there should be less spiders. Problem is I get no light im my frogroom .

you might want to wait for the weather to cool down so the plant is used to the lower house temps.

Thanks crazy4mantis that might be a while then, lol it doesnt cool down around here till late dec or jan.

You're fine, just bring it in under a light and expect that it might be a little while before it throws new pitchers

That is a great idea! Do you have a recommendations on what type of mantis would be good to let roam my frogroom?

lol. well something big and active so you can see it. maybe a h. membranacea? you don't want more than one, lol. it may be dangerous with the hot lights and such around the room, as well as all the hiding places.

butterworts work well against fruitflies.

Iv tried butterworts in some of my tanks never seems to do well. I dont know much about the mantis yet h. membranacea are they expensive.

i WOULDNT LET ANY MANTIS LOOSE IN A FROGROOM. All it takes is for one to sneak into a thumbnail tank and youll be sorry. Worlds most expensive mantis snack

Lol yeah. A membranacea could easily take down a dart of any size except the 2 in. + ones. I thought you meant it might accidently get poked by thumbtacks.

thumbnail frogs are tiny, expensive dart frogs. My highland lamasi go for $600/pr. I would HATE MYSELF if a loose mantid made a meal of one

have you tried sundews? they may be more affective for fruit fliies. though you would be limited in growing them where they get bright light from the window... i also have a N. miranda, i hardly ever see many fruit flies in them when i trim off their dead pitchers

I'm keeping 2 types of sundews in my yard. Just cant seem to keep them alive in tanks in the house. And JackTopus when do you cut your pitchers off I wait till they are shriveled up and brown
