Welcome. Sorry about having to witness that, they are more than just bugs to a lot of people. Good luck with what you choose to get, and know (like most hobbies) it is addicting and can be as fun as you make it. Spend a lot of money on big exotic tanks and plants, or use your red vines container and some sticks. Either way, do your homework on a species you decide on.

Thanks Mr. Hyde. I am getting a few ghost mantids. they haven't arrived yet and I'm already having fun catching fruit flys. And when they're older I'll be able to catch moths. Haha but this won't be their main source of food. Any tips on them and I'm all ears.

My apartment has dorm rules even though I live off campus. No pets. Fish are ok as long as they are in a small fish bowl. I told management that I had a (1) praying mantis. Little white lie I had 20 somthing. They approved it though and they have seen my little mantis zoo but haven't said anything.

All sorts of people sell cultures of flying insects. I don't own ghosts, so I don't know if they require only flying insects. But either way, once you are in the hobby, you will learn that you can find anything you need for any of the common species. Otherwise there are many sizes of crickets available at most of your pet store. meal worms, super worms etc. but make sure if you buy anything, you feed it before you give it to your mantis. Never give your mantid anything without knowing what is in its guts. flying or otherwise.

places that have rules on pets usually have the rules for pets that can ruin your carpet and floors, or create an odor. mantids are easily contained, i would be surprised if they said anything to you
