Yes you will need a photo of the underside/bottom of the abdomen for gender determination. See this post by Rick, or this other guide on the topic.

 Judging by the shield it looks male, but a pic of the abdomen would be more helpful. Anyways, welcome! I've got several dessicata at the moment, they're lovely.
