Thanks to @MantisGirl13 I have the opportunity to breed my Mantis Humble. The female will be here Thursday and is already about a month into adulthood and Humble is two months in *its a nail biter for sure*. The female has not started laying ooth yet so thats a good thing I think??

Being that this will be my first ever breeding with any species I would love some tips pointers, do's and do not's :)

Do temps affect breeding for this species? And how do I keep her from eating my guys head off 😳 How big of a space do they need?

Thanks in advance

I mated mine in an open room. Fatten the female up, but not all the way. Give her a large prey item and put her on a vertical surface, facing upwards if you can. Hold the male just behind her on a twig and he should crawl on. Watch the female and have a small twig ready in case you need to distract her. Let the male do his thing and if you have trouble getting him to connect, gently blow on him. If you want to save Humble's head, peek in on them every few minutes and give him plenty of space to fly away.

Hope that helped! Lmk if you have any more questions.

welp, guess I'll give this a try, so far my horizontal attempts are a failure, maybe all they need is to do it vertically? I'll also give the "blowing" trick a try, my males does seem to be confused about the female mantis anatomy.

My female literally looks as if she's gonna detonate. Starts vibrating so violently. He doesn't even have to approach.

I've let off for some days. Let her digest some of her food.

I'm still a noob and have no experience with this species, so take this with a grain of salt, but I've found doing anything to slightly disturb them gets them 'moving around'. For example, I paired my ghosts again two days ago and he landed on her backwards. There was a table lamp on top of the enclosure and whenever I would move the light, it would cause them to move around. So I would move the light, wait about 30 seconds for them to stop moving, then move the light again, which would cause them to move more. I did that until he was situated properly, and within 15 minutes they connected.

Again, noob salt.
