My male budwing died today and my female has about 4 months to live so I was wondering what type of mantis I should get next.

So far I've owned 1 Female Chinese mantis

And 2 budwings (male and female)

I like 'em BIG. Sphodromantis is a big, strong mantis. A beginner species, too.

Heirodula multispinas are the easiest that I have raised so far, and they get big. :) I have only raised Stagmomantis carolina and Tenodera sinensis before that. Mine are not very aggressive, so that might be a downside, depending on your taste in behavior.

My H. multispinas have grown large quickly, without eating as much as my other species. I find it strange that they have managed to get as large as they are, but I am beginning to like that they aren't hungry monsters like my T.sinensis were. They have never tried to eat my fingers and I haven't seen a threat pose out them since they have been adults.

Id say popa spurca sense theres a butt load of deals going around for them!
Yep, that's a good point. If it's a tossup between one speceies or another, go for the cheaper one, and Popas are certainly very popular at the moment. Check "mantids for sale/wanted". One member, there, with a six syllable user name, is almost giving them away! :D

the easiest would be one of these that I have had in the past

any of the creobroter species

orthodera ministralis or their other cousin from new zealand

acromantis formosana

rhombodera basalis or other species of this genure

gambian spotted eye

miomantis

lineolas

zebratas

Creos or Popas - just take the Member Forum deal. I still have creos if you prefer those.

Ghosts are a good choice, if slower and more elegant is the goal. Creos are like crazy monkeys!

For big and crazy-aggressive, just look locally.

When you're ready for something more exotic, just post in the classified, and someone will have something.

If you like to take them out and play, watch for deals on Gongys (Violins). If you want colorful pictures, stick to Creos and other flower mantids (I've never had Gambians, but they look and sound great).

Good luck!

I've been having a lot of fun with my Rhombodera stalli!

Plus they get big and can eat just about anything!

They are also amazingly easy to raise!
