Hello Fellow Mantis Lovers!!
I am new to the mantis world and thoroughly LOVING the hobby!! We started with a Chinese Mantis (tenodera sinensis) Ooth, and because it was our first time, I wasn’t sure if it would hatch or not. Low and behold, three weeks after receiving said Ooth, we had at least 150 tiny Mantid’s running all around!! It was awesome! Most were released into the garden and five were kept as pets. They just molted into L2’s on 4/8 & 4/9. We also had ordered an L2 giant shield mantis (rhombodera megaera), who just molted into an L3 yesterday, 4/10!! So exciting!!
I will attach a few images of my little buddies. This was supposed to be for my son, however, I seem to be way more into it than he is!
We still need some name suggestions!! Any thoughts?? I *think* my rhombodera might be a female, though I haven’t handled her yet since molting. The Tenodera are still a bit to small to tell. Unless anyone knows of any tricks to determine the *** of nymphs??
