Hey just wanted to post my baby chinese mantis just had his first molt (that i know of)! I'll post pics as soon as his/her exoskeleton is back :)

Yay congrats! I'm raising my first set to adulthood. I get so excited when they molt!
Yeah before he molted i was nervous something was going to go terribly wrong but now i'm just overexcited!!!

Update: one of his legs didn't come out so will that grow back?

Did you watch or just see the skin after? The first molt I've ever witnessed was two nights ago, and it was so nerve-wracking! Glad your little guy got through it fine, and congrats!

Nice photos! What are you gonna name him/her? I love the Tenodera sinensis. Mine made it to adulthood but died soon after. She was 3.5 inches.
I'm not sure yet. I was going to wait until he/she was big enough for me to tell gender to name him/her. any suggestions?

Nice, good idea. I tend to give mine unisex names just in case lol. Usually made-up names, kind of alien sounding. Seeing your mantid, I feel it might be female. Let me know if I turn out to be right about that haha. But for a name, I don't know, I have some funny names (Sir, Majesty, Keek, Dakon, Kent-Lok, Mostro - all my mantids' names lol). Maybe once you spend more time with the nymph you'll think of a good name that suits her/him

I name most of mine after foods. That can work for either gender. I usually name them the food name because of color which usually changes anyway. lol

My Juicy Fruit (Hierodula multispina) had yellows, pinks, purple, green, and orange tints, but now she is light brown as an adult. Still, my little Juicy Fruit is over a year old.

Green Bean, Chocolate Milk, Blue Berry, Juicy Fruit, Hershey's Special dark, Creme de Menthe, Tootsie Roll...
