I found this ooth a week ago. Initially I thought it was a small ooth from a Chinese mantis. I'm wondering now if it could be from a Narrow Winged or a European mantis. It was attached to a rock. I live in southern NY state north of NYC. Thanks.

Mantis religiosa. Looks like an old, hatched one.

 
They are just being laid this Time of year so it's either new or really old so try putting it in the fridge for a few months. And then let it warm up in the spring. Hopefully its fresh.
It is obvious this one wasn' t just laid, it looks quite weathered and is probably from last year. But the picture is very small.

Looking at it with a hand lens I have to agree. It's weathered looking.

PS- I can't tell you how many times your crawling insect signature has fooled me.
