I had a straggling female orchid that was not gripping surfaces correctly and I knew this was imminent. Woke up this morning to a freshly mismolted mantis. There was absolutely no way to correct itself, so it was off to the land of the lost and the home of the mantis disposer. I had to take pictures. These have got to be the most well fed chams around.

THAT WAS DELICIOUS!

Food is food and the chameleon loved it. Would you suggest the freezer instead? I think this was a fast way to go. As the photos show, that orchid wasn't going anywhere and could only hang there. On a more positive note...I woke up to a healthy adult male orchid this morning.

looks like he did like it indeed :D i never waste food...i always feed my mantis to another...why let it rot or freeze?

This reminds me of one of the funnier child hood memories I have that also had a pretty good lesson to boot. Both me and my best friend were very into grasshoppers as kids and were always catching and keeping them as pets. I often went to horseshows that had great fields for grasshopper catching so I would bring home hippty hoppers for us. One time I came back with two. One was a basic brown marbled color while the other was a pretty emrald green with very striking purple accents on its legs and along its body. Of course we got into an argument over who was getting that one. While we were arging over it we had it loose crawling in my porch since we had been playing with it.

Mid argumenet all of a sudden a lizard ran out right next to the grasshopper. We looked at the lizard, the lizard looked at us, then before either of us could move it grabbed the grasshopper up in its mouth and scurried off. We chased the lizard, caught up with it just in time to watch it fully sallow down the grasshopper. Moral of the story don't argue about grasshoppers with lizards because they will always win.

someone is suppossed to be puttin his butt in hot water, guess it will have to be me!

What !  :shuriken: did u do? bad boy! :tt1: ok, u've been in hot water, so take that!

i think it's a good way to go

the stomach acids likely killed it quickly

i fed a mismolted creo to a firebelly toad a few weeks back and she laid so many eggs afterward (NOT saying creobroter are natural food for them and they are required for egg production) B)

Nice pics. Intellectually, I get the feeding thing. It is a shame to waste, and, you know... circle of life and all that. I have trouble doing it myself (not that I haven't done it, just gives me the creeps).

Beautiful Cham.

Since I've gotten the chams the food chain has gained a link in my household. As a roach to mantis, right? Survival of the fittest and that orchid was totally unfit. :(
