At what instar do orchids get their green or brown stripe on the pronotum?

I believe it's around L4-5, don't quote me though.

I've seen it as early as L3, but it's typically L4 like the others stated...

You must be referring to what some call the "necklace". Some say that they can use this as a way of determining the sex. I believe they say that a green one means female. Does anyone know about this and care to make a post?

Green necklass = female.

Brown necklass = Male.

On a separate note, I'm a bit concerned.

Both orchids were walking around drunkedly, and were refusing food. Is it from too much humidity or heat? I was only taking the breeder's advice. I'm hoping for a molt, but I only got them yesterday. It sounds a little too perfect.
