I also noticed that orchid lady is acting more wild since she has been on there. Goes to the underside of the flower when I walk near. She never did that when she was in the enclosure with fake orchids. So she must be happy there.

I swear she is getting better adapted to the orchid. Here she is today.

dude, you really should put an orchis in your orchid containers and see how they behave.

Late to the party - I was out of town at an orchid show...

Phaelinopsis. My spelling might be off but that is it. Its also known as the moth orchid. They are easy and they have nice colors and patterns.
A friend collects them.
As everybody has said, the OP flower is a Phalaenopsis - a moth orchid - it's probably a clone of a hybrid but I'm not sure which one.

Alex: "Anyone know the type of orchid with grass like leaves, small flowers, and thick bulby stems?"

Can you describe the flowers? Sounds like it might be an Oncidium or Oncidium intergeneric hybrid but it's hard to tell without more information.

That newest picture is beautiful! I don't know if it's the brighter lighting, but the yellow on her thorax just pops out!

Really makes me want to acquire an orchid mantis...

Your orchid mantid's colors are surprisingly close to that of the Phalaenopsis flowers. Congratulations on keeping the orchid blooming and on your success with your orchids, it's almost as though they were meant for one another.

I tend to have trouble with Phalaenopsis--I usually end up overwatering them--I have better luck with orchids that don't mind staying wetter for longer periods of time like Masdevallias.

I currently have a vanilla--it's a tiny cutting that'll take a while to get to blooming size. You might have been able to save your vanilla orchid even after it snapped--they form adventitious roots and laying unrooted pieces with nodes intact on top of moist substrate keeps them from drying out and promotes rooting.

Beautiful Orchid Mantids! From whom did you both buy them from?

I'm thinking about getting Orchids, Ghosts, or a 'Flower' species.

Any advice to give? What does their care schedule look like?
