They sell "live" ootheca... I only dealt with California & Local mantids befores...

and these ootheca are HUGE. They are being sold as natural predators to anyone...

Yet what species do you believe they are using? They can't be ultra rare...

Also the store had them on cedar & without humidity for 3 weeks though they still

feel soft in some area (I on accident bruised one of the egg cases during threading in one spot)

I know I know "cut into it".

:( I dun like doing that.

They said they'd start to hatch in the warmer months, meaning...

These are obviously the kind of ootheca that are temperature sensitive but it must have been 80 in the store

and they were there for 3 weeks.

I heard some companies sold hatched egg cases as viable.

I hope this isn't the case :(

Opinions? Anyone buy from there?

The ooth you have is probally chinese. They are the most common species in garden centers and biological control suppliers. If the ooth was in 80f for 3 weeks it should be hatching soon. If it doesen't hatch in a couple of weeks than either it dryed out from lack of humidity or you could of got an ooth that has already hatched. You should also mist it being it has not had any moisture for a long period time.

Thank you I'm excited!! Can they live in California or should I rear them all as pets? (Sell/Trade).

I strung them up in a hatching container yesterday & added wet paper towel for humidity along with misting them.

Wish me good luck!

Please don't cut into them, it will tell you there are eggs inside that are wet or dry, it will not tell you if they will hatch, give them the proper time, cause they are chinese at least 5 weeks to hatch! And yes they can live there!
