Over-ordered flies

I bought a combo pack of melanogaster and hydei in anticipation for buying my first nymphs. My plan was that when the arrived the nymphs would be on the way, but now it turns out the ones I was looking for sold out. So I expect I'll have too many flies. I think I can order some L3 and L4's which will do well with the hydei, but I wish the melanogaster didn't have to go to waste. Whats the best thing to do with the culture and is there a way to save a few melanogaster flies for a culture I might need down the road?

Well, there's not much you can do with an unnecessary culture other than make more cultures and keep culturing until you actually need the flies. Otherwise, I'd find someone in your area who needs fruit flies and give them your extras. Or, you could always just order more mantids...there's always someone with young nymphs to sell.

Thats what I would do. Just make a culture of each and in 2 weeks u can do again. It doesnt cost much to make and keep it going.
