I mainly, slowly becoming exclusively keep OW Tarantulas of the genus Poecilotheria. Any other tarantula keepers opinions on OW vs NW? pros? cons? which ones you prefer?

Pro \ no urticating hairs

Con \no urticating hair  they seem more flighty and more likely to stand and fight if cornered.

I like new and old worlds but as of right now all of mine are NW. The only cheap old world I have found is a OBT. When I get my financials back in order I will have a couple of old worlds on my list.

I like both new world and old world tarantulas, but have a preference for arboreals as you're more likely to see them than terrestrials that are properly housed and hidden away in their burrows. I'd also say new world terrestrials are preferable over old world terrestrials. Old world terrestrials are quite attractive, but they have a tendency to be pet holes that you can't even handle safely.

Urticating hairs also are just as much of a turn off for me as a venomous bite and bad attitude, though.

Pros and cons depend on your style of husbandry really.

New world tarantulas tend to be friendlier to handling, if that's your thing.  Urticating hairs are a nuisance but weak venom is a plus.

Old world species can have nasty venom, not deadly, but some are medically significant.  The ability to "teleport" is a constant concern, especially with Pokies. Many of the terrestrials are obligate burrowers and I don't enjoy "pet holes."

Both OW and NW have species with aggressive feeding responses, both also have some incredible color variants and patterns.

Personally, I am a fan of NW T's of the genus Brachypelma and OW T's of the Harpactirinae subfamily.
