A while back I posted about parasitic wasps from a WC ootheca. That prompted me to pick up a cheap macro thingy for my iPhone, anyways long story short,I kept the infected ooth and today this emerged! Only realised after I had misted the container.

It can flutter quite well!

Anyone got any ideas?

Hey Andrew I have never heard or seen of a parasitic beetle...this is quite interesting! Hopefully someone has an answer!

Cheers,

Andrew

Dermestids feed on old, dead or dried oothecae, they aren't parasitic.

It has been identified as a 'dermestes' species of beetle that usually feeds on animal proteins and can sometimes infest good stores. The ootheca came from China and there is a fair bit of documentation about them.

Gonna give it a few days then feed it to a mantis lol ;-)
