I hope my babbis like me! I can't believe I was able to get 2 out of 3 to adulthood! Now I just need to learn how to keep them alive forever....

Those are purdy. Where did you get them?
Mantisplace.com, but I had ordered Tenodera sinensis off the site and got these little monkeys instead. I'm not sure 100% if these are aeruginosa but they certainly seem like them. I asked the lady in charge of the site and she seemed to have no idea. I think for informal and financial reasons I will be ordering off this forum instead from now on though, even though I love my babies and wouldn't trade them for the world (not even idolos).

ha! I am the lady! they are so pretty with all the colors on their wings! I was out of chinese, for a common mantis, the chinese go as fast as I can hatch them!

You should be Happy Rebecca give you a cooler looking Mantis instead of the Chinese lol ..

That mantis is way cooler than any Chinese mantis. I would be happy.

Oh no way, I'm not complaining by any means. These guys are definitely an awesome first mantis, and way more exotic and colorful than the chinese, and the site *does* state that unless stated that if some species are out of stock and you don't specifically state otherwise you can get a different mantis species with similar care requirements without knowing.

And I just so happened to order them without any specific details, other than I wanted 2 chinese, and they arrived promptly all happy and healthy in their little cups (and I had gotten an extra for free!). I would be happy with whatever, just so long as it was a mantis. The main reason I would order on the forum is due to the fact that I am mega broke and while mantisplace is awesome (and consistent) when it comes to supplies and mantids, the forums sometimes will have hobbyists who will sometimes sell overstock for less.

you know it! it does help to get some on here for less money, that's why this is a nice place to land! I do send a couple free mantis for new forum supporters too with some dinner for them, this also helps new keepers and of course we hope the forum, so maybe look into it, it is 13.00 and I tried to get Peter to up it to 15.00 but Me thinks he is to lazy!

I got the coolest mantis ever from this( Taumantis), so you should try it. Now I just need to find her a mate.

Looks like Polyspilota aeruginosa (Giant Madagascan Marbled Mantis) female to me and Rebecca did buy some of my nymphs last generation. Do you have a pair or do they both look like this? Males are smaller and thinner, of course.

I'm currently incubating an ooth that should hatch within a few weeks. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll add you to the list. This is a pretty cool species. The males can be different colors and the females get pretty big and have blue/gray on the inside of the raptors.

Yes!! They both look just like the female ( grey brown with blue and yellow and are around 3.5 inches!) Very sweet and spunky little ladies! I got them at L2/L3 on June 20th.

So are you saying that photo could potentially be Fifi and Duchesses long lost mom and dad :stuart: ?

I only hatched an ooth a friend gave me so those pictured above would be Fifi and Duchesses' siblings. The photo was taken July 7th. I sent Rebecca L2 nymphs April 2nd. If you got some of the nymphs i sent they were at least L4 by then.

Added to the list...

Griffin and Marbled look very much alike but Marbled is much larger. I had an adult female Griffin last year and she was nowhere as big as the girls in the photos up top. I'm no expert on these species, had limited exposure to them, but based on size alone I would guess Marbled. The timing is pretty good too considering when I sent you the nymphs.

The Griffin I had was nowhere near 5". The Marbled I have now is only 4". There is a lot of exaggeration on the interwebs. Like someone said they saw a 15' sasquatch! I've raised them for many years and never saw one over 11'. Some people are just crazy.
